It was a nice morning for a mid-summer race in SLC.  No wind and about 75'.  My son-in-law Austin signed up and asked me to run.  I've only been running about 20 miles a week so I had little hope that I'd have an outstanding race.

There were a lot of fast runners and high school XC teams. Jared Ward won with a time of 27:53.  That might be a new course record.

I had a better race for my low mileage training than I thought I would.  After a couple of fast miles I decided to back off just a bit, thinking I might die at the finish if I kept up the pace.

Mile times, (6:31, 6:27, 7:05, 6:49, 6:48, 6:57)

I didn't know what place in my age division I was in during the race, but for the first two miles, I was running just behind the guy that was in 3td place in my AD.  He looked like he could be my age so I kept my eye on him.  He was looking strong and so I let him go after mile 2.  He put some distance on me in the next mile or two.  But to my surprise with two miles left I was catching up with him.  With about 1K in the race remaining I passed him and pushed hard the remaining of the race.   So I ended up placing 3rd in my AD out of 24 and 174th of 854 total racers.  Only chicked by 24.   I thought that was great for the low mileage training.

Austin got 8th place overall with a time of 30:06.  Lighting fast!!
