Noon run, sunny, temp. 80'

Decided to test out the left hip again.  I went out at about an 8 minute pace and everything seemed pretty good.  After a mile I tried to pick up the pace but the hip would give a dull pain as I tried to pick up the pace.  So a ran the 2nd mile at about 8 minute pace.  Then a guy came on the path about 100 yards ahead of me and was running at a fast pace.  I decided I'd try to catch him but as soon as I sped up the hip started aching.  I picked up the pace anyway to about a 7:15 pace but I still wasn't catching the runner.  It seemed that the longer I ran the less pain my hip gave me.  Maybe the bodies natural drugs kicked in.

If this is not obvious, you should slow down. Run the majority of your mileage at 8:00 pace or slower. I would recommend a couple of week like that - try to put in as many miles as the time will permit at 8:00 pace. Then try occasional tempo pickups, not very long, if it hurts, add two more weeks at 8:00 pace.

Some of the problem could very well be biomechanical, but the biomechanical deficiency can be compensated for through the strength of muscles, bones, and ligaments, and that strength is developed through steady consistent mileage at a very moderate pace.
