The marathon relay race started 20 minutes late but it was a great day for running with the temperatures starting at about 55'.

I had to go to a soccer game so I started off and won my heat by about 50 seconds.  With reduced training and a cold over the last week I thought I did good.  Of course I'd like to have run closer to 6 evens but I didn't have enough motivation.  I ran the 1st mile in 5:50 and it felt good but from then on the pace slowed down.  I couldn't convince myself it was worth it to run any harder than I was.  Mile avg. 6:16

I ran it with ward members Annette Kelly (44:45), Andrea Scott (42:21), Sue Pebbler (42:50), & John Pebbler(42:09).  The winning team got a 2:56 and all other teams were above 3 hours.  They had 54 teams total.

You finished two places in front of me in our heat and I thought you looked great. Congrads

Nice job winning your heat Terry. 6:16 is pretty decent after a sick week.

Do you feel like running St. George at the last minute and on less than ideal training? My buddy Larry has access to a free SG entry (from a sponsor) you could have. (See http://larry.fastrunningblog.com/)

Why does the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared" pop to mind?

I think you ought to give it a shot. You could start off with Tom, Nathan, and me. It would be fun to see how things unfolded. Would one of you pull away from me early, or would you both pull away together. You have to admit, it sounds like a grand adventure. And how many times do you get a chance at a free entry into St. George?

(Maybe if I talk a little smack.) You're not chicken are you, Terry? Afraid Tom might beat you? Afraid I might beat you? Afraid you won't even finish maybe? Bawk, bawk, bawk. ;o)

Come on Terry! Do it! And it's free!

Of course Paul, Nate and I will all kick your fanny with your lax training and all but still....if nothing else at mile 16 when you die you could mosey around and maybe wait and see how Kim's doing and pace her through her last 10 miles...if you can keep up with her that is... :)

Whaddya thing Old Bean?

If i were you Terry, i'd jump all over that. Go show those guys what you're made of!

From Terry on Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 14:49:16

Paul,

What do I have to do to get the free entrance? Sign me up. I'd love to run the 1st half of the marathon with some of you guys and then see you all pass me as I cramp up. You just have to wait for me at the finish.

I haven't run a step all week. I'll have to do a long run tomorrow.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get ready for a marathon in 2 weeks?

From Paul T on Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 18:37:38

Taper? Nah. You've already been doing that for weeks.

Long mileage with hard tempo runs? Nah. It might be a little late for that.

Rely on your natural talent and all the good miles you put in earlier in the year? That might be your only option at this point.

Pray? Oh, yes, I'd recommend that. ;o)

Seriously, I'm glad you decided to do it, Terry. It will be fun. Don't expect too much, relax, have a good time, and I think you'll do much better than you think. In fact, with your talent, tenacity, and competitive spirit, I wouldn't be surprised if you beat one or all of us. You've made this adventure even more exciting. Can't wait!
