Stayed with Tom and Kim at their Pleasant Palms Condo.  Much better than a hotel!  A great please to vacation with a family.  The day before the race we went swimming, shuffle board, miniture golf, etc..

Tom drove us to the start.  It is always nice to get to relax on the way to the starting line.

Warmest start to the St. George Marathon so far.  I only ran 13 miles in August and couldn't train good in September because of Tendonitis so I new I wouldn't be anywhere near my Sub 3 time in June.  I always cramp up on low miles if I push to hard.  So I decided to run behind the 3:20 pace guy so I wouldn't go out to fast.  I was also hoping to run with Matt Larson who was going to do the same.  However, Matt started back to far in the pack so he didn't ever catch up to the pace guy.

This ended up being a near perfect pace.  I could tell after only a few miles that my last weeks half marathon didn't leave my legs fresh.  My calves were tired and aching some.  I ate about the equivalent of 3 bananas along the way and a couple of mini cliff bars.  I also drank gatorade and water at about every stop also pooring some water on my back, hoping this would help with the cramping.  From mile 15 on my legs were going back and forth trying to decide if they would cramp up.  With 3 miles left my legs were doing ok so I tried to push and see if I could run some sub 7 miles.  I was at about a 6:45 pace for that final push and then my legs said "Not doing this or it's Cramping time" so I had to slow it back down.

Noon at Gym.  Yuck.

I decided I better try to ease back into running since I've got the Las Vegas Ragnar in just over two weeks.  In my attempt to stay somewhat injury free I did 10 min. on the bike, 10 min. on the elliptical and 1 mile at 9:20 pace at 4% incline on the dreadmill.  The mile running was by far the most painful.  Maybe tomorrow will be better.

The knee tendonitis which was hardly noticeable the first few days after the marathon started flaring up as everything else started feeling better.  The 1st mile of the run was the most painful and then it lightened up.

Noon at the Gym.

10 bike, 10 eliptical, 1 mile on treadmill at 8:00 pace.  On a brighter note, Tanner got his Visa to Brazil and is flying the the Brazil MTC as I write this.

I ran with 6 others from my Las Vegas Ragnar team.  Less than two weeks away.  Our team starts at 9:15am and 250 of the 400 teams start before us.

I stayed with the lead group taking it easy trying to get my legs recovered from the marathon.

Nice day for a run.  I still don't feel recovered from the marathon.  It took a little more effort than is should have to beat the 8 minute guy.

Evening with the soccer team, sunny, temp 70'

We had 8 of the team show up.  UEA must have pulled some of them away.  We ran a 3 mile run and I told the guys I'd run at an even 7:30 pace for 3 miles, if they all beat me then we wouldn't have to do another mile.  Amazingly they all passed me with .1 miles left.  Not bad to get 8 14-15 year olds to run a 22:30 3 miler.  I should have been a cross country coach.

I was going to run easy but as I was about 100 yards from turning onto 40th a fast female runner went zipping by.  It took me almost a mile to catch her at a 7:15 pace however it felt like a 6:30 pace.  Sometimes the competitive spirit kicks in and I have to go for the win.  Luckly she turned soon after that so I was able to slow back down.

Evening run, Temp 55'

I invited our LV Relay team to do an 8:30pm night run to check out the reflective gear and headlamps and then have RootBeer Floats.  It was fun.  I convinced Dallas to run with us.  The longest Dallas had ever run was a 5K.  Dallas did great and stayed up with the lead group.

My shin muscles have been aching at the start of every run.  I don't know if that shin splints or not.  But after a mile I stop and stretch and rub them and then they are usually ok the rest of the way.  Probably my new running style of always having a bent knee has added to the problem.  Gettin to old, to many aches and pains.

The Las Vegas Ragnar was great.  It had a lot of rolling hills that seemed to catch my team by suprise.  I ran legs 7 & 9.  Taunia was going to run the 1st leg of leg 9 and I'd to the rest but her PF was bad and there was a lot going on so she stayed home and let me run them all.

My plan was to run at marathon pace and then hammer the last leg as best as I could.  I stuck to the plan until my 5th leg when I heard someone catching up to me on my way up a good mountain pass and I decided to kick it into race gear and I'm proud to say no one passed me the entire race.  The problem with kicking it into race gear on the 5th leg was that it waisted me for the last leg and my legs started cramping up with 3 miles to go.  My last two miles of the race were just over 10 minute miles.  Maybe if I would have had more than 40 minutes to recover from the 10 mile 5th leg I might have been able to get a little better time.

Our team got 4th place in the Coed SubMaster division missing 3rd place by only 5 minutes.  If we wouldn't have had a lost runner once or I wouldn't have cramped up we may have got 3rd place.  We were 43rd out of the 400 teams with a time of 28:38.
