A very nice morning for a race.  Temperatures around 60-65.

I'd like to thank all those fast runners on the blog that could have easily won this race for not showing up and letting me have the glory.

This is a very small race of about 50-60 people. It has kind of the small town feel to it where they do not block of any of the roads you are racing on.

The race started just after 8am.  After a half a mile there were four of us in the front pack.  One guy had some kind of device that was blaring heavy metal music.  I was hoping he would fade.  After a mile and a half a younger guy (highschool/college age) with long hair and myself left the other two guys and the heavy metal slowly faded away.  Ah, just the joy of running near the mountains with the hopes of winning a race.  I thought this long haired guy would fade after a few miles but no luck.  So I thought my only chance was to push the pace as hard as I could and see if he could endure 13.1 miles.  He usually ran ahead of me by a step or two.  He didn't want me to take the lead or even run side by side.  Miles 10 and 11 are uphill with about 300 feet of elevation.  A tough section of the race.  I thought that if he stayed ahead of me through that stretch he'd probably win. With about a quarter to a half a mile left on the last uphill part of mile 11 he started fading and I of course pushed extra hard when I saw him fading and took the lead for the 1st time.

I kept pushing the last two miles and he gave up and I won by about a minute.  It was a fun race and I was mentally prepared for the course after running it last year.  However, those last two miles really hurt.  I really don't enjoy that much pain but I did want to win and it was worth it.
