The SGM does a pretty good job.  I got a ride over to the Bus loading area with the wonderful Tom & Kim Lee.  I met up with my Neighborhood friends Bill, Lisa, Dennilynne, Mike and Becky.  I even saw my Brother-in-Laws sister Maria Weller.

The only problem with the SGM this year was the starting line.  They need to put estimated mile pace markers and space them out or something because there are always many many people that crowd in the gate before I get there that are much slower than me.  I had to weave my way through people for the first two miles.

Miles 1-7.  I ran these miles at a good pace.  Very close to my 2:59 a couple of years ago but the difference this year was I didn’t have to look at my Garmin and realize I was going faster than planned and keep slowing it down.  I could tell I didn’t come this year with the same energy.  It also seemed very warm at the start.  50+ degrees.  I was sweating after ther first mile.

Miles 8-13.  I was enjoying the race but with less energy than I’d hoped.  I was happy I was getting it done but was hoping for more zip and pep.

Miles 14-17.  Started to feel a little better.  I cautiously put in a few good miles without pushing it to hard.

Miles 18-23.  At mile 18 my left leg started to tighten up a bit, the precursor to cramping.  Dag it.  I slowed down and it went away.  I then kept the pace a little slower than I’d like but still respectable for the old man.

Miles 24-26.2. I picked up the pace at 24 for a bit but my leg grabbed again and I had to slow it back down.  I tried to see if I could put some faster miles in near the end but my legs like to cramp up so I kept it steady and was able to finish good.

I got 12 out of 310 in my age division and came in 249th place out of 5465 finishers.

First run after the SGM.  Legs weren't very happy that I was running at marathon pace.

Legs feeling kinda dead.  Maybe to much junk food and not enough recover running.

Legs were not feeling to good today.  Hope they perk up for next weeks half.

I came across the start of the SOJO half marathon with about 3 miles left.  They were just about to start.  I walked through the crowd and saw a couple of neighbors.  I ran with one of them for the first half mile that was doing his first half, then I took off and ran just a little faster than marathon speed until I had to turn off to go home.

My legs just don't want to get moving since the SGM.  Or maybe it's to much stress in life.

Very nice day for the race.  Temps at the top were around 40-45. I had a long sleeved shirt and that was probably just a little overdressed especially after we got out of the canyon.  The race started at about 6200 and dropped to about 4400.

Rode up to get on the buses with some good neighboors.  The headless horseman was there looking pretty cool on his horse at the starting line.

Miles 1-4.  5:52, 5:54, 6:08, 6:09.  I decided to go out agressive hoping that I had recovered from the SGM.  Everything felt pretty good.  I ran with Mike P. for this stretch.

Miles 5-9.  6:24, 6:26, 6:31, 6:16, 6:38.  Just as mile 5 started I could tell my legs were fatiged.  Not tired from running hard but not recovered and worn down.  I was worried that they would give out near the end so I let up just a little off the gas pedal.

Miles 10-13.  7:12, 7:18, 7:20, 7:23, 0:43.   These are the miles that flatten out, but my legs started cramping.  I was forced to slowdow.  Mile 13 was the worst, my legs were really grabbing and I was just hopping they wouldn't go into full cramp mode.  I just survived but didn't get to finish the race like I was hoping to with some 6:30-6:40 miles.

It was a fun race, a lot of people in costums.  I won my AD out of the 30 other runners and was 15 out of 1349 total.
